HANGING LOOSE
I’ve been hanging by my thumbs
since I can’t remember when.
Why don’t they tell me what they want?
Is it all up to me?
It’s a choice-less choice, my friend Soren tells me,
who is chained to the wall beside me
pissing in his boots.
Nobody can explain
why he broke off his engagement to Regina,
the woman he loved so dearly.
His questioning faith left and later returned.
It’s all about letting go, and trusting choices.
Forget about the divine mystery,
you have nobody to answer to but yourself.
What I choose to do with this one and only life
is up to me.
